2013 Epic Beauty Awards — Best of Natural Beauty

Welcome to the third year of the Epic Beauty Awards! Don’t see a category you want? Did I overlook a great product? Leave a comment so I know what category to add for next year and what products to review that I may have missed. FTC Notice Some products have been given to Epic Beauty Guide to review at some point in the past, but this in no way favors the product to win an Epic Beauty Award. All products have been originally purchased or repurchased by me. Some affiliate links or links to my reader-requested curated shop, Epic Beauty Bar, are used when they are available, which supports Epic Beauty Guide as a free resource for everyone, but in no way effects the winner selection. Thank you for your support! Let me know in the comments if you have any questions, article suggestions, product suggestions, etc. 😉   WINNERS – MAKEUP Toggle the tabs to see all the winners. How to Get Thicker Hair

Getting thicker hair has been an obsession of mine for years. Everyone in my immediate family has fine hair – no one has a gloriously thick mane (booo). For the past few months, my hair has been the thickest it’s every been and everyone around me has noticed and asked what I’ve been doing. So I wanted to share with you what I’ve been doing to thicken my fine, naturally curly hair. It has taken about 3–4 months to see a huge difference, but my hair has been very gradually thickening up for the past two years since I stopped being vegan. 1. SHAMPOO. My hair is fine and naturally curly, which is a double whammy to developing length and thickness to the hair. When hair is curly the cuticle does not lay flat and is prone to dryness and breakage. I have found the best shampoos for me are Acure Organics Shampoo Pure Mint + Echinacea and Amazon Beauty Rahua Shampoo. They leave my hair feeling thicker and moisturized without weighing it down. When I shampoo, I also take the time to massage my head. I will do a quick shampoo, rinse, and then shampoo again where I massage my head for a good 3–5 minutes. Not only does it feel awesome, but it’s also pushing blood to your scalp and freeing up any sebum (oil) that may be blocking new hairs from coming through your scalp. 2. CONDITIONER. I use Ctonics Elixir Blossom Conditioner and Amazon Beauty Rahua Conditioner. I use the Ctonics conditioner 1 or 2 times per week since it provides a serious thickness and volume boost...

Skin Care Routine, Plus Hair Care & Makeup — April 2011

OCTOBER 2011 UPDATE ON THE WAY Hey everyone! I just updated you on my skin care routine in January, but in March it started to get warm (it’s in the high-80’s here already) so I needed to change some things and simplify it a little bit. Thussss, I want to share what I am doing. I have also included what I use for hair care, as well as makeup on special occasions since I get a ton of requests for makeup recommendations. {SKIN CARE} CLEANSER. ARCONA Triad Pads, $30, 45 pads (lasts up to 45 days with daily use) A must-have. I use a pad in the morning and a pad at night, after using an ARCONA Clarity pad. I use the scrubby side for my face, then I turn it over and use the smooth side to wipe my neck and chest. It’s extremely refreshing, smells delicious, and leaves your skin moist and glowing. Since I don’t wear makeup (except on my eyes) and I don’t live in a heavily polluted area, the pads are an excellent replacement for washing my face with a traditional cleanser. The pads are also useful if you are traveling, staying in a hotel with chlorinated water, or camping. ARCONA Clarity Spot Repair for Face/Body, $28, 45 pads (lasts up to 45 days with daily use) These pads are amazing for preventing hormonal blemishes women tend to get around period time, and excellent for preventing razor bumps and ingrown hairs (face, legs, etc.). The smell is really intense and makes my eyes water, and even though my skin is sensitive, it does not irritate it whatsoever and...

10 Best Natural Skin & Hair Care Products of 2009

Even though Epic Beauty Guide launched less than one week ago, I have surprisingly been receiving quite a few emails regarding natural skin care products. So I decided to wrangle up my Top 10 Favorite Natural Skin & Hair Care Products — and nooo, I’m not paid or sponsored by any of them. Enjoy and Happy Holidays! 1. 100% Pure. With such a delicious medley of fruit enzyme scrubs, lotions with mouth-watering scents like “Dark Chocolate Mocha” and “Honey Almond,” and luscious body washes with equally yummy flavors, who could resist? Most important, their line is incredibly clean and free of sneaky, unfriendly ingredients. A few of their products (I believe it is just their body washes) contain less than 0.1% potassium sorbate, a food-grade salt preservative that prevents fermentation. This is an acceptable preservative, as it presents no carcinogenic risk and is water soluble, so it is not stored in our bodies. Plus, their customer service is a dream and their owner, Susie Wang, comes across very genuine and caring (and apparently she’s going to start a natural clothing line soon — that’s going to be awesome!). Oh oh, P.S. their facial moisturizers (love their Aqua Boost Hydrate Serum) will leave you with baby soft skin. 100% Pure is 100% Amazing (cheesy, but so true). 2. Talulah. I am fairly new to this brand, but I’m already in love with their homespun view on beauty and the truly 100% natural ingredients that go with it. Their founder/CEO, Nicole, is an esthetician and herbalist who formulates every product in the Talulah line. Everything from their luxurious cleansers to their nourishing facial...
