Last-Minute Holiday Gifts 2011

Hey everyone! I’ve been completing my holiday shopping and I figured I would do a little last-minute holiday gift idea for those of you still stuck on what to get your family and friends. These are my favorites, and many happen to be on sale or offering special discounts. Hoorah! Here we go: (FTC: I was not paid or sponsored by any of the brands or companies mentioned below. Enjoy!) 1. Skin Apotheke Ayurvedic Skin Care. A favorite skin care line of mine, handmade and expertly formulated. The Rejuvenating Eye Creme is my all-time favorite eye cream, and I’ve mentioned it before (it was also on my must-have products list in 2010). Right now all products in the store are 10% off with coupon code HOLIDAY. 2. 23andMe DNA & Ancestry Test. One of the coolest, most unusual products out there. Normally $99 plus $9/month, it’s now on sale for $76. Just order a kit, the kit arrives, you spit in a little tube, send it back, and wait 2–6 weeks for your results! The test analyzes your DNA for fun things like hair color and ear wax, as well as serious things like health traits and disease risks (which you have the option of viewing or not). The best part for me was the health traits and ancestry testing, which shows your full genetic heritage. 3. DoMatcha Green Tea.This dainty little can contains matcha, a powerful powder chock full of antioxidants and amino acids. Plus, EGCG, which is responsible for helping with weight loss and cancer prevention, is 137 times more bioavailable than regular green tea. 4. Paleo Comfort Foods:...

How to Beat Eczema & Dry Skin — Plus, GIVEAWAY!

Hey everyone! As you all know, I’m a huge fan of Ayurvedic medicine (and Ayurvedic products like Skin Apotheke) as a tool for skin care, and it’s an excellent compliment to anyone’s skin care knowledge. Today I have a great guest post by Kristen Ma, author of Beauty Pure & Simple: The Ayurvedic Approach to Beautiful Skin. Her book is an awesome resource for Ayuverdic techniques for skin care and beauty. Keep reading and don’t miss the bottom of the article, where I announce an awesome giveaway for 3 lucky winners. .…… The Three Faces of Eczema: Beauty Through Ayurveda (How to Beat Eczema & Dry Skin This Winter) by Kristen Ma www.tibetconnection.org/administrator/sys/ With the winter weather approaching, our skin will get battered and beaten by the elements. This makes our complexions vulnerable to dehydration, irritation, and a variety of skin ailments. One of the most common winter-triggered beauty conditions is eczema. Unfortunately, it is one of the most misdiagnosed skin problems due to the fact that it is also very misunderstood. From a dermatological perspective, we don’t really know what eczema is and have come to no conclusions about its real cause. Usually, a derm will send you home with a prescription for cortisone – which is a steroid that suppresses your immune response and thins your skin over time. While this will calm the condition down temporarily, it does not take a long-term approach, leaving the root cause of your eczema untreated. It is also a confusing condition because it is expressed in so many different ways. Some of us are red, some itchy, some flaky, and...

Eliminate Puffy Eyes

Hey everyone! I get a lot of questions related to under eye issues like puffiness and dark circles, so I thought I would address the puffy issue since I have already covered dark circles. Here are some of the causes of under eye puffiness and how to treat them…Epic Beauty style. 😉 First, know that there are two types of puffiness. One is essentially water (fluid) – they are quite squishy and tend to fade or flatten out on their own as the day goes on. The other type are actually fatty deposits – they are hard and do not fade or flatten, and are usually a result of not treating under eye puffiness early on. Unfortunately, the fatty type is harder to get rid of and there are only two solutions I know of: 1. face massage such as Tanaka, done daily and consistently to help remove fat from the area, and 2. cosmetic surgery. Of course, I recommend you try massage first. Wait at least 2–3 months to see any change, though the time varies from person to person. If you have the watery type, keep reading. {Common Causes of Puffy Eyes & Under Eye Bags} Lack of sleep or quality sleep Excessive sodium intake or sugar intake Stress and resulting adrenal fatigue Over consumption of alcohol and/or caffeine Hormonal changes or imbalance Changes in weather or temperature Sinus problems or allergies Water retention Medication side effects Like all things in our lives, the above causes are interconnected. For instance, if you are stressed, your adrenals become less efficient, which can lead to hormonal imbalance, which can lead to water retention and…dun...

12 Must-Have Products of 2010

I have come across some incredible natural skin care products this year, and I wanted to share my must-haves with you. 1. 100% Pure Organic Lavender Honey Facial Cleansing Foam, $18.50. This is my go-to face wash, and the only face wash I’ve used consistently for almost a year. I love foaming washes, and foams are great for dry skin as well, particularly if you are sensitive and prone to clogged pores (cream cleansers tend to contain waxes that can easily clog pores). 100% Pure has a wide variety of foaming washes for all skin types, so if the lavender honey wash isn’t for you, try one of their other face washes. A bottle lasts me about 2–3 months. 2. Skin Apothke Ubtan Scrub, $15. My favorite scrub of all time. I’ve used dozens of scrubs and exfoliators over the years, and none have treated my sensitive skin the way it always wanted to be treated. You mix a little of the scrub with your choice of either water, organic milk, or organic plain yogurt and gently massage in circular motions for a minute or two. It effectively prevents blackheads and leaves your skin softer, radiant, and polished without feeling dry and irritated. Though the price went up a few dollars, this scrub is so well worth it. This will always be a staple in my medicine cabinet. 3. Arcona Triad Pads, $23. I have been using these pads for toning, removing the last remnants of my Ubtan scrub, and as a face wash if I’m traveling and don’t want to use chlorinated water to wash my sensitive skin. These...
