My Skin Care Routine for Clear, Radiant Skin (Plus Makeup!)

My Skin Care Routine for Clear, Radiant Skin (Plus Makeup!)

My skin care routine changes often due to all the lovely skin care products I am sent for review, and while so many of them are beautifully formulated, they are better suited to other skin types or concerns. Thus I am fiercely loyal to the rare gems that come across my desk, and they are the products that are most effective for me and that I come back to consistently.

Over the years and with much trial and error, I have put together a skin care routine that suits my skin perfectly. It has given me clear and radiant skin, even while I was on long-haul flights and eating food that my body hasn’t experienced in years (chocolate-injected croissant, anyone?). Sure I get the occasional pimple, but the overall quality of my skin is due in part to this simple and stellar routine.

HOW TO GET GREAT RESULTS: Remember that what works for my skin may not work for yours. Experiment, but give products a solid chance to work. It can take about 2–4 weeks for the skin to become acclimated to a new skin care product. Lightening or correcting skin care treatments require about 12 weeks to properly evaluate the results. Check out my new skin care guides for product suggestions for each skin type and skin concern. If you don’t spot your skin type or concern, leave a comment on this post so I can add it.

Most of the links below will take you to my new curated collection shop, Epic Beauty Bar. I was getting a ton of requests to provide a shop where all my favorite products were in one place, so it was easy for everyone to see the details and buy them from anywhere in the world. And that is exactly what I did. 🙂 I hope you enjoy! I welcome your feedback in making Epic Beauty Bar perfect for your needs.
I have been getting a lot of super sweet emails about this post relating to the main picture. Yes, that’s me without makeup or editing, after my evening skin care routine. Voila!

PRODUCT: EWS Filtered Water + One Love Organics New Best Friend Skin Shammy
HOW I USE IT: I wet part of the shammy with filtered water (super important that it’s filtered – chlorine and chemicals in tap  water dry out and sensitize your skin) and gently wipe over face, neck, back, and chest. Then I use the dry part to go over my skin again. The shammy’s material attracts both water and oil, so it refreshes my skin nicely.

PRODUCT: MUN Aknari No. 1
HOW I USE IT: I love MUN. This super light, simple, fresh rose treat regulates oil production like a dream. My skin doesn’t like very many oils, but MUN keeps my skin balanced and never clogs my pores. Plus it absorbs beautifully and works amazingly well under my W3LL People Narcissist concealer stick (see below). I dispense just 1 or 2 drops on my index finger, spread the oil across my fingertips, then dab my fingertips all over my face. This spreads the oil evenly and lightly, and makes for a grease-free finish. I apply to my entire face, under the eyes, neck, and chest.

PRODUCT: La Bella Figura Decouverte Under Eye Repair Serum
HOW I USE IT: Amazing. This diminishes under eye circles instantly, brightens the whole eye area, absorbs beautifully, and provides a fantastic base for concealer under the eyes.

I am not a huge fan of putting makeup on every day, but when I want to look extra polished or when I have an evening out, this is my easy routine.

PRODUCT: Vapour Stratus Instant Skin Perfector
HOW I USE IT: If I have a special occasion, this beauty acts as an amazing, moisturizing, skin-perfecting potion when used all by itself. Massage it on like moisturizer and lord-have-mercy you’ll look like one of those ethereal, lit-from-within immortal elves (minus the pointy ears). If I choose to wear this for a night out, I like to wear it by itself (for those of you who like to wear foundation, know that it’s also meant to be used as a primer). It comes in stick and liquid form, and each are suited properly for different skin types and preferences.

PRODUCT: W3LL People Narcissist Concealer Stick
HOW I USE IT: I love this concealer. It is designed to be used as an all-over foundation as well, but I don’t wear foundation, so I just like to apply it under my eyes (I use shades No. 0 and No. 1) or on any spots that need some coverage. Even though it’s makeup, it’s also skin care. The ingredients are impeccable, the texture is creamy and blendable, and such a treat for the skin. (If your skin is very dry or mature, try Vapour Foundation.)

PRODUCT: W3LL People Hypnotist Eyeliner
HOW I USE IT: I love this for tightlining my upper lid and lining my upper lashline for extra definition. The color payoff is gorgeous, it melts easily onto the skin, and doesn’t smudge, flake off, or move anywhere until you choose to wash it off.

PRODUCT: W3LL People Universalist Multi-Use Colorstick
HOW I USE IT: When I feel like making an extra effort, Universalist No. 2 is a stellar highlighter for the cheekbones, cupid’s bow, and down the center of the nose. Better yet, it doesn’t break me out like other highlighters. I then like to put No. 8 high on my cheekbones and blended back toward my hairline, which I have found is the perfect place for blush for me, and leaves behind a super natural, healthy flush. The colors are very easy to blend and perfectly buildable. They don’t go on crazy dark, but they also give an awesome color pay-off with the very first swipe.

PRODUCT: Elizabeth Dehn for One Love Organics Vitamin D Moisture Mist
HOW I USE IT: I use this throughout the day. It’s essential for me when I’m traveling or just need a little extra moisture in the winter or in very dry climates. This mist is so perfect – it smells good, it locks in moisture, and it calms redness and irritation in a flash.

PRODUCT: Elizabeth Dehn for One Love Organics Vitamin B Cleansing Oil
HOW I USE IT: I put two pumps into the palm of my hand and massage this into my face and neck, then rinse off with warm filtered water. It gently and thoroughly removes makeup and sebum, and smells like tropical paradise! It is also slightly exfoliating due to the enzymes, which is fantastic for sensitive skin that has trouble with scrubs.

PRODUCT: Kahina Facial Cleanser
HOW I USE IT: Since I like to double cleanse most nights, I use this giant bottle of Kahina’s lotion-like cleanser right after rinsing away the cleansing oil. This cleanser is amazingly calming and hydrating, and truly is perfect for all skin types. It can be used alone, with a Clarisonic, or as the second step in double cleansing. You choose. 😉

PRODUCT: Skin Apotheke Ubtan Radiance Scrub and May Lindstrom Skin The Clean Dirt
HOW I USE IT: I keep these two beauties in my arsenal because, after the dozens of scrubs I’ve used, these are the ones my skin covets. They both have seriously potent, anti-inflammatory, healing action. I apply my scrub to my freshly washed, damp skin almost every night (sometimes I use my Clarisonic Mia 2 instead, depends on what I feel like using). Then I wet my fingertips and gently scrub the paste onto my face and chest. I let it sit on my face and neck for 2–3 minutes to let the ingredients really work their magic, then rinse with warm filtered water. If you are prone to little bumps (“subclinical acne”) or blackheads, these scrubs (and MLS Problem Solver, see below under “Special Treatments”) work miracles.

PRODUCT: La Bella Figura Modern Radiance Concentrate
HOW I USE IT: I love this serum for its incredible, visible results. This is hands-down the best vitamin C serum I have ever used. It is lightweight, absorbs quickly, brightens the skin in just one application, and evens out the skin tone incredibly fast. (Note: for those who want a facial oil/moisturizer and vitamin C in one shot, try Elizabeth Dehn Vitamin C Serum.) I wake up to bright, even, glowing skin without a single fine line. And just as importantly, it doesn’t clog my pores (yay!).

PRODUCT: La Bella Figura Barbary Fig Seed Oil
HOW I USE IT: After I let Modern Radiance sink in for 2–3 minutes, I apply one pump of fig seed oil to my entire face and neck. For me, it works incredibly well at moisturizing AND preventing blackheads. I don’t particularly like the smell, but it goes away when it absorbs (which is super fast) and leaves behind the most beautiful dewy skin…yum.

PRODUCT: Wedderspoon Manuka Honey
HOW I USE IT: I love to use this gorgeous, super healing honey whenever my skin needs an extra boost of moisture. I like to mix it with The Problem Solver sometimes, for extra pimple prevention, since Manuka is anti-bacterial and helps to keep your skin barrier function healthy, which is important for preventing breakouts (healthy skin barrier = healthy, balanced skin). Lately I’ve also been using La Bella Figura’s Bio Active Healing Mask for the same reasons, since its base is Manuka honey, and I’m loving that too! I use both the same way – leave on 15 minutes, rinse with warm water, and enjoy the results (skin smoother than any baby’s butt).

PRODUCT: May Lindstrom Skin The Problem Solver
HOW I USE IT: I use this jet black mask once or twice per week at night, depending on how my skin feels and where I am hormonally. I mix about 1 Tbsp. with a bit of filtered water to make a lovely mousse, and use May’s Treatment Duo to apply the mask to my face, neck, and chest. It tingles and warms the skin, leaving a beautiful glow. It prevents blemishes (even PMS ones), eliminates existing blemishes, and brings out healthy circulation. In love.

PRODUCT: Soapwalla Activated Charcoal Soap Bar
HOW I USE IT: This was an unexpected treasure when I discovered this a few months ago, and now I stockpile this bar so I am never at risk of running out. I was never a fan of bar soaps for cleansing, but this has changed my opinion entirely. It is gentle but thorough, and does an amazing job at preventing blemishes (and razor bumps from shaving) and hydrating the skin. By far my favorite body wash.

PRODUCT: Dermasuri Deep Exfoliating Mitt
HOW I USE IT: This is precisely 53 times better than any random rough nylon glove thing from the drugstore or any of those dangly loofahs (which, by the way, harbor bacteria way too well). I use this maybe once or twice per week and it gives me the softest, smoothest skin known to mankind. Just follow the directions on the box and you will get the most satisfying skin sloughing experience of your life.

What does your skin care routine look like? Share your personal routine with me in the comments. 😉
