MUN No. 11 Anarose Rejuvenating Rose Toner Review + 10% Off

MUN No. 11 Anarose Rejuvenating Rose Toner Review + 10% Off

I was first introduced to MUN in 2013, and I wrote my review of the now-renowned skin savior known as MUN No.1 Aknari Brightening Youth Serum (formerly labelled Nighttime Dream Youth Serum) back in May 2013. My love of MUN has held steady these last two years, as its proven itself over and over again as the ultimate superpower in face oils. Even people who have had the worst experiences with face oils will buy MUN Aknari in trepidation, then email me two weeks later enthusiastically exclaiming how their skin is now clear/plump/brighter/smooth/you name it. It’s just one of those products that if it ever ceased to exist, there would be a lot – and I mean kiloliters – of tears. When Munemi Imai, the beauty and brain behind MUN, told me of her plan last summer to launch a toner, I immediately knew it would be a stunner like its big sister. And let’s put it this way: I was sent a bottle for review and have since bought two more. Keep reading for all the details! MUN No. 11 Anarose Rejuvenating Rose Toner Review Years ago, I was not a fan of toners. I didn’t see the point. They dried out the skin, they were a tremendous waste of cotton balls, and they seemed like just another way to extract a few dollars from our pockets. I have since changed my mind. A real toner is meant to balance the pH of the skin, and work in tandem with your natural skin barrier to keep your skin smooth, hydrated, and free of infection and acne. A properly formulated toner is worth its weight in gold. The basic idea is...
Fall & Winter Skin Care Ritual

Fall & Winter Skin Care Ritual

Hey everyone! I love taking your requests, and requests for a Winter skin care article have been coming in lately, so here it is! Always feel free to comment on articles here, on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter and tell me what you think, what you would love to know more about, any reviews or swatches you want to see… You name it, I’ll make it happen. 😉 P.S. I now carry and curate almost everything I personally use on Epic Beauty Bar, so it’s all in one place for you as many of you requested. Let me know if there’s anything you want to see! Transitioning to a Fall & Winter Skin Care Ritual Our skin’s needs change often based on hormone cycles, diet, sleep, and stress, yet sometimes the seasonal changes are the most obvious. In the summer people tend to sweat more and get oilier, thus requiring lighter, cooling skin care products. Now that we are living in cooler, less humid weather, we need to prepare our skin for the barrage of indoor heating, drier air, and cold temperatures. Of course, if you live in a tropical environment (or a hot, humid desert like Dubai) the seasonal changes are less extreme and therefore we can keep our skin care routines almost the same year round. My skin care routine changes pretty often due to the amazing new skin care products I am sent for review, as well as the changing needs of my skin seasonally. There is something to be said for consistency as well. Some products work better over time, others are so perfectly formulated for your skin that keeping them as your stable...
7 New Natural Beauty Must-Haves

7 New Natural Beauty Must-Haves

Hey everyone! Please excuse the shorter post today, as I just moved from Dubai to Hong Kong and am settling in nicely to my new home. Lots of new and awesome articles (and videos!) have been drafted and recorded and I’ll be doing my best to get them into your hands and faces and eyeballs very soon. 😉 7 New Natural Skin Care & Makeup Must-Haves Behold! I wish to share with you my latest and greatest finds in natural beauty for Fall and Winter…there are some seriously gorgeous, high-performance products on this list. Gressa Minimalist Corrective Serum Foundation, $48 Caution: when you try this foundation, you will get hooked. This remarkable formulation is a serum with a built-in primer and corrective mineral pigment for an incredibly natural, luminous finish. This mellllllts into your skin, leaving a seamless look that doesn’t alert anyone to the fact that you are wearing foundation. You may also build the coverage from light/medium to full if you so desire. (If you’ve been reading my posts for a while, you’ll know I don’t wear foundation, yet once in a blue moon when I want to gussy it up for a special event, I love to reach for a tinted moisturizer – or now this serum – for a very polished look.) May Lindstrom Skin The Jasmine Garden, $60 There is no shortage of face mists and toners on the market, yet there are very few that I have curated as part of an admirable collection of absolutely exquisite and effective toners. The Jasmine Garden is the newest addition to this incredible line-up and is the latest creation from May Lindstrom, the woman who brought...
5 Must-Have Beauty Balms for Fall & Winter 2014

5 Must-Have Beauty Balms for Fall & Winter 2014

The weather is getting cooler and drier in many places around the world (even here in hot, humid Dubai) and it’s time to start shifting our skin care routines slightly. If you are prone to dry, itchy, or flaky skin in the colder months, then these all natural and organic beauty balms are your must-have heroes for keeping your skin protected and moisturized. Weleda Foot Balm, $14 This balm is less thick and slightly more oily than most balms and salves, and is quickly absorbed, even into the toughest of calluses. It contains olive fruit, myrrh, and calendula extracts to keep feet fresh, moisturized, and softened. This is ideal for swollen, red, tired feet. The slightly cooling and anti-inflammatory effects help your feet to recover quickly. Apply it generously, let it absorb, and pull on some warm, cozy cotton socks to hold in the soothing, softening ingredients overnight. Elizabeth Dehn for One Love Organics Active Moisture Vitamin E Eye Balm, $48 The texture of this slightly off-white balm is a bit drier and crumbly looking than others, yet once you put a tiny bit on your finger, it begins to melt into a richly moisturizing, silky, and skin nourishing potion. And I love the scent! It smells slightly sweet and faintly of flowers and licorice, which ever so slightly lingers on the skin (truly, it’s lovely). It contains organic shea butter and high concentrations of eyebright, pomegranate, ginseng, and licorice for moisturizing, brightening, and lightening under eye circles and sun damage. Organic fennel is also infused into this formula for its anti-inflammatory, anti-puffiness properties. Take a tiny bit onto your ring finger, press...
How to Select the Right Skin Care (Avoid Common Skin Care Mistakes!)

How to Select the Right Skin Care (Avoid Common Skin Care Mistakes!)

One of the most frequently asked questions I get is “how do I know the right skin care products for my [insert skin type or condition here]?” Never fear! I’ll help you conquer the confusion, and if you still have questions, leave them in the comments. First, an important lesson in Skin Care 101: Be honest about your skin type and condition. Avoid selecting products for imaginary skin conditions or issues. We can be very critical of ourselves, and this can prevent us from making an honest assessment of our skin. Selecting an incorrect product for a nonexistent condition (or one that is not as critical as you might think) can actually result in a skin condition. For example, don’t run out and buy a strong glycolic acid serum made specifically for those with mature and sun damaged skin if your skin has only been around for 21 years and you have a few freckles. That is not mature, sun damaged skin. See the difference? I’ll give you an example of something I see an awful lot: someone gets a small breakout caused by stress or a bout of questionable food choices. The person then freaks out and treats the breakout with harsh, drying acne treatments. The skin becomes dry and sensitive, which compromises skin barrier function and sends the skin into protection mode. Translation: redness, inflammation, and excess oil production. The result? A cycle of dryness, sensitivity, and more breakouts. The solution from the very beginning would have been to use hydrating, moisturizing treatments that speed healing, reduce inflammation, and protect the skin from damage. So instead of “attacking” the issue, change your mindset to...
My Skin Care Routine for Clear, Radiant Skin (Plus Makeup!)

My Skin Care Routine for Clear, Radiant Skin (Plus Makeup!)

My skin care routine changes often due to all the lovely skin care products I am sent for review, and while so many of them are beautifully formulated, they are better suited to other skin types or concerns. Thus I am fiercely loyal to the rare gems that come across my desk, and they are the products that are most effective for me and that I come back to consistently. Over the years and with much trial and error, I have put together a skin care routine that suits my skin perfectly. It has given me clear and radiant skin, even while I was on long-haul flights and eating food that my body hasn’t experienced in years (chocolate-injected croissant, anyone?). Sure I get the occasional pimple, but the overall quality of my skin is due in part to this simple and stellar routine. HOW TO GET GREAT RESULTS: Remember that what works for my skin may not work for yours. Experiment, but give products a solid chance to work. It can take about 2–4 weeks for the skin to become acclimated to a new skin care product. Lightening or correcting skin care treatments require about 12 weeks to properly evaluate the results. Check out my new skin care guides for product suggestions for each skin type and skin concern. If you don’t spot your skin type or concern, leave a comment on this post so I can add it. Most of the links below will take you to my new curated collection shop, Epic Beauty Bar. I was getting a ton of requests to provide a shop where all my...
