Glowing Skin with Prtty Peaushun – Review & Giveaway
Celebrities are known for looking perfect on the red carpet because there is always an army of people and products that go into their appearance. And you know that shimmering, glowing skin celebs have on red carpets and models have in photo shoots? Well, you can blame Prtty Peaushun‘s line of skin firming, shimmering lotions.
Developed by Hollywood makeup artist, Bethany Karlyn, Prtty Peaushun (pronounced “pretty potion”) is a favorite of celebs like Gwyneth Paltrow, Cate Blanchett, and Taylor Swift, and trainer Tracy Anderson.
Aside from getting gorgeous, dewy skin with an Epic Beauty-style diet and lifestyle, you can get an instant, picture-perfect glow from Prtty. I was looking into buying a pouch to try and, as fate would have it, they contacted me to ask if I’d like a Prtty lotion to review. My answer was “absolutely!” and here I am, reviewing this natural glow-giver. It’s not a self-tanner and it won’t make you look like a trashy sparkly mess, thanks to the super tiny light-reflecting particles.

First, I love the pouch. It is a heckuvalot bigger in person than the pictures lead you to believe. Here’s my hand holding it, for perspective (and do note: my hands are not tiny – I have those long skinny witchy hands).

It’s minimalistic, easy to use, and allows you to get out every last drop. Each pouch is 8 fluid ounces, which will last me months (probably a year, since I don’t use lotion often).

The color is phenomenal. It’s like molten gold or liquid sunshine or [insert other epic simile here]…just look at that. I want to eat it.

The color above is Medium. Prtty Peaushun lotions come in several different shades (Light, Medium, Dark, and Deep), including one without any color, aptly named “Plain” (it still adds a subtle shimmer, but without added color). I recommend ordering a shade darker than you think you need, especially if you want to even out your skin tone and get a bit of color. For my pale skin, the Medium or Dark is perfect on my body, and the Medium is great to highlight my face.
Now for the “before and after” pictures.
I had applied some organic Sun Gelee self-tanner from Spray di Sole a few hours before, since I knew it would be difficult to show the before and after with my crappy lighting and super white skin. Check out the difference.
Nice brown, natural-looking tan sans Prtty’s glowing touch…

After applying Prtty Peaushun in Medium. It left a beautiful, radiant golden hue to the skin…

Overall, I am definitely a fan of Prtty Peaushun. It smells good, it doesn’t feel sticky, goes on easily, and doesn’t rub off on clothes (I let it sit for about 10 minutes to dry, though 5 should suffice). It washes off pretty easy without soap once you’ve had enough glow for the night.
Have you tried Prtty lotions yet? What do you think? (And don’t forget to enter the giveaway below for your own full-size Prtty Peaushun pouch in a color of your choice – there will be 2 winners!)

Hello Steph,
I have a question that I am really interested in getting your opinion on, since I know it will be a real and honest answer.
I have always admired your blog. You’re basically my most beloved skincare guru.
I had previously looked up this product a few months back. I was curious to try it and when I looked up the ingredients they all sounded nice but then I got down to where it said it contained “phenoxyethanol”. I know its used as a preservative in place of parabens (since the whole parabens not being safe thing) but I read that it was possibly just as bad or worse (like in certain doses it can cause nerve damage). I tend to avoid products with this ingredient and stick to stuff that has parabens in it since it hasn’t knowingly harmed me yet. I know that in such small doses these things probably wont cause any severe damage but I have always wondered about these ingredients as being “hazardous”. Do you think its true or just a bunch false hype to scare people into buying more “organic” products?
Thank you in advance for taking the time out to answer this question! <3
On a random side note, have you tried a turmeric mask before? I think its supposed to contain the ingredients: turmeric powder, Chick pea flour, milk, sandalwood powder, and almond oil. They say Indian brides-to-be use it before they get married for nice glowing skin. It sounded pretty nice. I like hearing about traditional recipes from different cultures.
Awww, thanks Alisha.
I really appreciate that.
Phenoxyethanol is a bit of a dodgy one. Some people are sensitive to it, others are not. It also depends on how much is used. I use some products that contain it in small quantity, and I would rather have phenoxyethanol than parabens. Granted, neither is ideal, but sometimes the benefits outweigh the risks (this is true in much of life). I have not heard of phenoxyethanol causing nerve damage in humans at normal concentrations — beware of any study that use exceedingly large doses on small mammals like rats and mice. It is not an accurate representation of how a human being would be subjected to the substance. At worst, I have seen reports of skin irritation from phenoxyethanol, which individuals can also get from parabens and other preservatives (even natural ones). Personally, I have not had any skin irritations from it because the products that contain it use such a little amount. I also don’t use those products daily.
On the other hand, we have parabens. Parabens have been found in breast tissue of breast cancer patients and are a strongly suspected link to cancer. This is interesting because there is not a large dose involved, and it’s shown in humans (not rats). If a woman uses, say, five skin care products per day, all containing (for argument’s sake) less than 1% of parabens each, she is simply engaging in normal behavior, yet subjecting herself to the increased risk of cancer. That’s a biggie. The same problem exists with other known carcinogens, like chlorine. Yet, without a filter to remove that chlorine, we absorb it and breathe it in every time we take a shower. Nasty business, but we need to be informed so we make good decisions for our health.
I have tried a turmeric mask before and love it. Just a warning, if you have pale skin, you will be stained yellow if you leave it on too long and/or don’t rinse it off well. So just make sure you have nowhere to go for a day or two when you try it out haha. But yes, give it a shot! I love sandalwood for removing excess oil and preventing blackheads — definitely one of my favorites. I use the sandalwood rose powder/mask from Skin Apotheke for that purpose.
I hope this helped!
