What Is YOUR Experience with Acne?
I’ve been getting a lot of questions about acne and getting flawless skin, so I thought it would be a nice thing to do to put ALL of my acne treatment and flawless skin knowledge into a little book format for everyone…which led me to this: I think it would be really interesting to ask what your experience has been with this common skin problem.
I would love to hear how you overcame acne or just the ordinary few pimples around period-time. Was it a particular skincare product that changed things for you? Dietary change? A supplement? Perhaps an oddball treatment for lovely skin?
If you like, I can even include your tips (and you’ll definitely get credit!) in the book. But that’s up to you.
I look forward to hearing from everyone!

[…] What Is YOUR Experience with Acne? – Epic Beauty Guide […]
i am also battling acne myself =(
Before I started your steps and recipes I was drinking teas that help regulate or balance my hormones for my period. These included nettle, tulsi, raspberry leaf, Traditional Medicinals PMS tea, Female Toner, and Woman’s Liberty. I think these helped a lot because my worse acne is a week or two before my period, very painful inflamed pimples, and they lessened. And I was drinking this raw “soup” from Matt Amsdem’s recipe book: one bunch watercress, cucumber juice, olive oil, garlic powder, salt, and lemon blended.
I added this to a vegan diet high in raw food with superfoods, trying to eliminate most starches and fried things. Now I also added boiled egg whites, raw cow milk, raw cow cream and butter, raw goat milk(if available) raw goat feta cheese, and goat yogurt or kefir (it’s pasteurized though).
I don’t use any conventional products on my body other then deoderant, eye makeup and cream/powder blush. I skin brush and use apple cider vinegar to wash my hair and body (i don’t get any acne on my body though),and put a a lil’ olive oil on my hair and body, and use natural homemade recipes for face washes and masks, etc.
But I feel one of the most important things for my type of acne is to reduce any stress factors in my life like, like an exhausting and extremely stressful relationship, procrastinating, anything stressful, and negative thoughts. I do need to work on a better sleeping pattern though:).
I try to put my self back to the time i didn’t have any acne at all, I am now gonna turn 22 and had this acne since I was 17, but over the past 2 years it just exploded, my skin went completely haywire, so I remember I used to be less stressed out, ate lots of cucumbers, lots of yogurt, and boiled egg whites. I used to exercise a lot (cross country running, soccer exercises) but since I was 18 I have a case of sciatica that hurts once I get into an exercise routine. I’m working on the sciatica with herbs and later on with muscle balancing exercises. Maybe the lack of exercise promoted the acne in a way.
It seems that if I want my acne to be gone I have to immerse my self into an “acne free lifestyle” lol, but I feel little by little its getting better. Thanks a lot Stephanie for your great website, I can’t wait till your next article!:)

What an AWESOME mini-post, Stef! Thank you so much for sharing this. We sound so much alike, it’s kinda spooky. ;D
It’s true…you definitely have to change your whole lifestyle if you want to really get rid of acne, but you sound like you’re on a really good track — your skin should clear up quickly. Definitely try that herbal blend from Herbally Grounded if you can, that really helped me out last year to get my skin in great shape again. And yoga, too.
By the way, boiled egg whites sound good, I’ve never had or made them. How do you make yours?

Hi,
i was thinking about your booklet and have one suggestion. Perhaps you can include a chapter on what ingredients in skincare, haircare and bodycare products we should avoid. It will also be helpful if we have them split into 2 categories — high risk ones that we should definitely avoid and low risk ingredients which are better to avoid.
This way, we can make our own informed choices with the various brands we have in our countries.
Thank you
PS a side note, what ingredients should we avoid for laundry detergent to reduce xenoestrogens? I read recommendations that we should use “Nature Clean” powder but this is not available in my country.
Great idea, Pansy.
I am not sure of what ingredients in laundry detergents are xenoestrogens, but I will say that some of the best natural detergents (no weird ingredients) are from Ecover, Seventh Generation, and Biokleen. I have also heard that baking soda makes an excellent laundry detergent. Perhaps something worth checking out? I haven’t tried it myself, I just use Biokleen laundry detergent powder.

Hey Stephanie
I was wondering about sun protection since i am in Vietnam — South East Asia. can you suggest a sunblock or advice for me ?
Hey Teddy!
There are two great natural sunblocks I can think of for you: Badger SPF 30 and Soleo Organics SPF 30. They’re both reasonably priced and have excellent ingredients — they are also physical sunblocks, instead of being chemical sunblocks. I believe Saffron Rouge ships internationally and they have both brands: http://www.saffronrouge.com/face/sun. If they don’t ship to Vietnam, try Googling those two brands to see who you can buy from.
It is best to apply the sunblock to your face, neck, ears, and back of your hands to prevent age spots. Another important thing for sun protection is to eat a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as Omega 3 fats (fish, fish oil, krill, grass-fed yogurt, grass-fed kefir, grass-fed meats, flax seeds), which will protect your skin from the inside and prevent sunburns. Wear a hat when you’re outside for a long time, too.
