DIY Dull & Dry Skin Face Mask

Since it’s winter time and most of us have the heaters blaring, our skin is rebelling with dry patches and flakes. So I want to share with you a DIY skincare mask that I use often, and it works quickly to nourish and repair the skin. In fact, yogurt (which is part of the recipe) was used by my Lithuanian grandmother, who passed the idea down to me. Apparently, yogurt and sour cream were popular homemade skin treatments in Eastern Europe, and some of us were lucky to have that knowledge passed down!
So whenever you skin is acting up, take 15 minutes to make and apply this delicious mask.

{BENEFITS}
Balances skin bacteria for eliminating and preventing breakouts, balances oil production, gently exfoliates, brightens complexion, intensely moisturizing, protects skin from infection.
{INGREDIENTS}
4 organic strawberries
2 Tbsp. organic, plain yogurt
1 Tbsp. raw honey
2 Tbsp. organic rolled oats or oat bran
{STEP #1}
Mash up the strawberries by hand using a fork. Doing this on a plate or cutting board will be helpful.
{STEP #2}
Put the strawberry mash in a small bowl. Add yogurt. Add raw honey. Mix well.
{STEP #3}
Put the rolled oats in a coffee grinder, food processor, or blender for a few seconds just to break up the larger chunks. You want it to be a chunky flour. (Note: skip this if you bought oat bran, since it’s already a nice, finer texture.) Add the oats to the bowl. Mix well. You should end up with a thicker, pasty liquid that will stick on your face.
{STEP #4}
Apply the mask with clean hands onto your face, neck, and any dry spots on your body. Leave on for 10 minutes maximum. Wash off with lukewarm water. Give a final rinse with cool water. Follow up with a natural toner (you can even use rose water/hydrosol, lemon water, or champagne) and natural moisturizer (plain jojoba oil also works great).
Mmmm! Fresh, rejuvenated, moisturized skin! Leave a comment if you try it and let me know how you like it.
Best,

I’ve recently started a blog, the information you provide on this site has helped me tremendously. Thank you for all of your time & work.
I tried this mask yesterday, and this is what I found.
Pros–
It smells nice
It was fun to mash up strawberries
Cons–
Gave me a terrible rash
Made my skin sticky, no matter how much I washed
Did nothing for my complexion
While this was a fun mask to make, it was pretty color and it smelled nice, it did nothing for me. The rash might not be from the mask, I’m on antibiotics, I think I’m having a bad reaction to those. However, it did nothing for me. So if you have extra time and would like to smell like strawberry yogurt, by all means go ahead. If not, avoid it, it was useless
Hi Leah,
Sorry you had a bad experience with the mask. While many enjoy that mask, some people are more sensitive to certain ingredients, which is why it’s always a good idea to spot-test before you slather it on your whole face. For instance, I can’t use pineapple on my skin, yet plenty of people use it in masks and are fine with it.
If you skin is sensitive, try sticking with just a plain yogurt mask, which is what I use on my sensitive skin. Also, antibiotics will make your skin more sensitive and prone to irritation (especially from the sun).

This one is a real thumb up, it works. thanks!
I really love the Lady Soma Antioxidant Berry Masque (http://www.ladysoma.com/antioxidant-berry-masque.html), it does what it claims. My face really feels fresh and clean of all impurities. I dont have any crazy acne or anything like that but i do have oily skin and blackheads.… It’s a wonderful at home exfoliation mask, at such an affordable price. I don’t see myself buying anything else. I would definitely recommend this to others.
I use one similar to this that works really well. I use strawberries, banana, and honey. I use one banana, around 3 — 4 medium sized strawberries and 2 tablespoons of honey. Whatever I don’t use I freeze and it continues to work fine. I believe if you have sensitive skin then the acid in strawberries may cause discomfort, but if not then give this a try. Just blend the two fruits together and then mix together with the honey. I usually leave masks on my face longer because my skin is so dry. After using my skin felt incredibly soft and looked brighter and refreshed, and it felt nice, too.
I hope this helps.
Sounds yummy!
