DIY Anti-Aging & Dry Skin Face Mask

It’s a brilliant idea to start anti-aging treatments sooner rather than later. The key is prevention, so it’s certainly not strange or overly vain to want to keep your skin young and firm for a very long time (or forever, really). This mask makes a great addition to any skin care routine. The best part is you can use it before going out for some extra glow and firming effect. Just apply your moisturizer and makeup (hopefully it’s a natural brand nudge nudge) as usual.

{BENEFITS}
Skin firming, pore refining, minimizes pores, moisturizing, helps restore skin’s protective lipid layer, reduces puffiness and fluid retention in the face.

{INGREDIENTS}
1 ripe organic banana
1 vegetarian-fed, free-range egg, U.S. size large
1 Tbsp. raw honey
2–4 Tbsp. organic rolled oats or oat bran

{IMPORTANT}
*You can wash the outside of the egg before using it if you are concerned about salmonella.
*You can refrigerate and use this mask several days in a row. Use it all up within 2 days of making it.

{STEP #1}
Mash up the banana by hand, using a fork. Doing this on a plate or cutting board will be helpful.

{STEP #2}
Put the banana mash in a small bowl. Add raw honey. Mix well.

{STEP #3}
Crack the egg and separate the white from the yolk. Beat the egg white until it becomes frothy (you’ll see bubbles). Add the beaten egg white to the bowl and mix well. (Note: you may keep the yolk in for added skin nutrition and breakout elimination/prevention — try it both ways and see what works better for you.)

{STEP #4}
Put the rolled oats in a coffee grinder, food processor, or blender for a few seconds just to break up the larger chunks. You want it to be a chunky flour. (Note: skip this if you bought oat bran, since it’s already a nice, finer texture.) Add 2 Tbsp. of oats to the bowl. Mix well. Add 1 or 2 more Tbsps. if necessary. You should end up with a thicker, pasty liquid that will stick on your face.

{STEP #5}
Apply the mask with clean hands on your freshly cleansed face, neck, and backs of the hands (hands show aging, too!). Leave on for 15 minutes. Wash off with lukewarm water. Give a final rinse with cool water. Follow up with a natural toner or champagne and a apply a natural moisturizer (plain jojoba oil also works great).

{QUICK BONUS TIP}
For a “Fast & Firm” DIY face mask, just use the egg white by itself! Apply to a freshly washed face and leave on for 5 minutes. You’ll feel it tighten and it will be slightly hard to move your face. Rinse off with lukewarm water, a splash of cool water, then toner and moisturizer.

All done! Enjoy!

Best,
Stephanie
